Barcelona El Prat (BCN) is Spain's second-busiest airport and the arrival point for most visitors to Catalonia. It has two terminals, T1 and T2, connected by a free shuttle bus that runs every few minutes — but if you land in T1 and your ride waits in T2, you lose twenty minutes you did not plan for.
The airport sits roughly 15 kilometres south-west of the city centre. In light traffic the drive takes about 25 minutes; during the morning and evening peaks it can stretch to 45.
Your options from the airport
The Aerobús runs to Plaça Catalunya in about 35 minutes and is inexpensive, but you still need a taxi or metro to your hotel with luggage. The metro L9 Sud requires a special ticket and several changes. Official taxis are metered, with airport and luggage supplements, so the final figure is only known when you arrive.
A private transfer is the only option with a fixed price agreed in advance, a driver waiting inside arrivals with your name, and a vehicle sized for your luggage. For two or more people it is usually cheaper than a taxi once supplements are counted.
